Shlomo Ephraim, Rabbi Nachman's first son, was born around 1805. At the bris, the Rebbe himself served as sandek and mohel.

Sometime during the first year of his life, Shlomo Ephraim contacted tuberculosis.

The Rebbe traveled to the Baal Shem Tov's grave in Medzeboz to pray for his son. , but departed realizing that he had not succeeded on his son's behalf. Shlomo Ephraim died while the Rebbe was still on his way back from Medzeboz.
