Francis Courtenay b. circa 1576, d. 3 June 1638

Francis Courtenay was born circa 1576. He was the son of Sir William Courtenay and Lady Elizabeth Manners. He married, secondly, Elizabeth Seymour, daughter of Sir Edward Seymour, 2nd Bt. and Dorothy Killigrew. He married, firstly, Mary Pole, daughter of Sir William Pole and Mary Periam, on 7 November 1606. He died on 3 June 1638. He was buried on 5 June 1638 at Powderham, Devon, England.

He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Devon in 1625.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Grampound in 1626. He succeeded to the title of 4th of Devon [E., 1553] on 24 June 1630, de jure.
