George Hastings, 4th Earl of Huntingdon was born circa 1540.1

He was the son of Francis Hastings, 2nd Earl of Huntingdon and Catherine Pole.2,1

He married Dorothy Port, daughter of Sir John Port, in July 1557.1

He died on 31 December 1604.2

    George Hastings, 4th Earl of Huntingdon held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Derbyshire in 1562.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1565.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Leicestershire in 1571.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Leicestershire between 1584 and 1587.1 He succeeded to the title of 4th Earl of Huntingdon [E., 1529] on 14 December 1595.1 He succeeded to the title of 9th Lord Botreaux [E., 1368] on 14 December 1595.2 He succeeded to the title of 5th Lord Hastings, of Hungerford [E., 1482] on 14 December 1595.1 He succeeded to the title of 6th Lord Hastings [E., 1461] on 14 December 1595.1 He inherited Dale Abbey, Derbyshire through his wife.1

Sir George Hastings, 4th Earl of Huntingdon (1540 – 30 December 1604) was an English nobleman.

He was a son of Francis Hastings, 2nd Earl of Huntingdon and Catherine Pole. He was a younger brother of Henry Hastings, 3rd Earl of Huntingdon.

He was Member of Parliament for Derbyshire in 1562, for Leicestershire in 1584-87 and invested as a knight in 1565.[1]

Ancestry

His paternal grandparents were George Hastings, 1st Earl of Huntingdon and Anne Stafford, Countess of Huntingdon. His maternal grandparents were Henry Pole, 1st Baron Montagu and Jane Neville. Jane was a daughter of George Nevill, 4th Baron Bergavenny and Margaret Fenne.

Anne Stafford was a daughter of Henry Stafford, 2nd Duke of Buckingham and Catherine Woodville. Henry Pole was a son of Sir Richard Pole and Margaret Pole, 8th Countess of Salisbury. Margaret was the only daughter of George Plantagenet, 1st Duke of Clarence and Isabella Plantagenet, Duchess of Clarence.

Both Buckingham and Clarence were descendants of the House of Plantagenet, were close relatives to various monarchs of England and entertained hopes for the throne during their lifetimes.

Marriage

George married Dorothy Port.[2] They had five children:

Francis Hastings, Baron Hastings (1560 - 17 December 1595). He was father to Henry Hastings, 5th Earl of Huntingdon.

Henry Hastings (1562 - 5 October 1650).

Sir Edward Hastings.

Catherine Hastings. Married first Sir Walter Chetmynd and secondly Sir Edward Unton. Her second husband was a son of Edward Unton and Anne Seymour. Anne was a daughter of Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset and Anne Stanhope.

Dorothy Hastings. Married first Robert Dillon and secondly James Stewart.

Through Francis, George was a 12th-generation ancestor of Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
