Biographical Summary

"Sir James Grant, Baronet [S 1625] of Grant, only son and heir by 2nd wife, born 19 May 1778; was M.P. for Elgin and Forres-shire, 1761-68, and for Banffshire, 1790; succeeded to the Baronetcy, 18 March 1773; served heir to his father, 14 May 1773; raised the 1st Regiment of Fencible Infantry in 1793, and the 97th Regiment in 1794; was Receiver and Cashier [S], 1790-95; Receiver of Excise [S], 1795; L. Lieut. of Inverness-shire, 1794-1809. He married 4 January 1763, Jean, only daughter of Alexander Duff, of Hatton, co Aberdeen, by Anne, 1st daughter of William (Duff), 1st Earl of Fife [I]. She died 15 February 1805. He died 18 February 1811."
