Biographical Summary

"Sir John Erskine, Baronet [S. 1666] of Alva, br. and h.,( a ) b. about 1673; suc. to the Baronetcy, 23 July 1693 ; was served heir to his br. 1 May 1694, and to his father, 24 May 1696 ; admitted an Advocate 1700; was M.P. [S.] for Clackmannanshire, 1700-02 ; for Burntisland, 1702-07 (being a supporter of the treaty of the Union [S.]) and was M.P. [G.B.] for the same, 1707-08, and for Clackmannanshire, again, 1713-15. He m. Catharine (b. 14 Jan. 1685), 2d da. of Henry (St. Clair), Lord Sinclair [S,], by Grizel, da. of Sir James Cockburn. He d. in the Isle of Man, owing to a fall from his horse, 12 March 1739, in his 67th year."
