Biographical Summary

"Richard Maitland, of Pitrichie, in the parish of Udny, co. Aberdeen, s. and h. of Patrick Maitland, of the same, by Katharine, da. of Alexander Burnett, of Leys, had spec, service to his father, 12 July 1643 ; was a Senator of the College of Justice, Dec. 1671, and was cr. a Baronet [S.], as above, with rem. to heirs male whatsoever, 12 March 1672. In that year he reg. arms in the Lyon Office. He had Crown Charter of the Barony of Gight, co. Aberdeen, as a Free Barony, 6 July 1672. He m. Margaret, da. of Robert Gordon, of Straloch and Pitlurg, the well-known Geographer. He d. 22 Feb. 1677."
