Death: 1 Quality: 0 ABT 1828 in Sumner Co.,, TN

Note:

Snelling sells his 250 acres on Drakes Creek, where he lived, on 28 October, 1828. See Estate records. By 21 January, 1829 Court appoints Estate administrator. We assume that Snelling dies (Nov.-Dec.) 1828.

Margaret b. June 30, 1830 (conceived ca October 1829) was not his daughter. i.e. she was conceived after Snelling died. He is not shown in the 1830 census. It is therefore possible that widow "Peggy" marries the Mr. (Abram?) Ellis in 1829. Jane Ellis, their daughter, is born August 25, 1835. Mr. (Abram ?) Ellis dies after May 1836 (when Edward S. is conceived) and before June 30, 1838 when "Peggy" is shown in Gallatin with school children under the name Margaret Ellis.

In 1840 we find Margaret Ellis in Missouri.

Note: See Birth info.

In 1828 Snelling sold 250 acres, on which he lived, to Richard Baskerville. See estate papers. The land is shown on the 1878 map as lying near the border of Dist. 16 and 13. His land was bordered on the north by D. D. Cardwell(sp?), on the East by heirs of Thomas Baskerville, on the South by John L. Bunton and George Blain, and on the West by O.H.P. Duval. All these names are shown in this area on the map.

Probably Loudoun or Culpepper County and probably named for John Snelling.

John Snelling was killed in the Revolutionary War. Ref. sherrjo@tenet.edu (Sherry Johnson) "Shenandoah County Continental Soldiers" Rootsweb.com John Snelling, 8th Va. Reg., husband of Elizabeth enlisted in Feb. 1776. Died Nov. 1776. Elizabeth remarried in 1781 after her husband was deceased...granted pension in Shenandoah County. See Rev. Note: We assume that Snelling dies ca 1829. More than likely, Margaret b. June 30, 1830 (conceived ca October 1829) was his daughter. i.e. she was born after her father died, as he is not shown in the 1830 census. If he was the father, then he died sometime after October 1829 and prior Nov. 21, 1830, the date the census taker turned in all his data.

It is therefore possible that widow "Peggy" marries the Mr. (Abram?) Ellis say ca 1834. Jane Ellis, their daughter, is born August 25, 1835. Mr. (Abram ?) Ellis dies after May 1836 (when Edward S. is conceived) and before June 30, 1838 when "Peggy" is shown with school children under the name Margaret Ellis. In 1940 we find Margaret Ellis in MO. Note: See Birth info.
