Stephen Sedgwick, son of Gen John Sedgwick,of Cornwall, and his first wife Abigail Andrews, was b. 3/1/1783; m. July 17,1821 [LDS marriage shows 7/17/1811], with ANN (or ANNE) BALDWIN, dau. of Isaac Baldwin and Hannah Sacket. He graduated at Yale and was a lawyer; they settled at Ithaca, NY. He d. in Cincinnati, Ohio.

"Stephen Sedgwick was one of the old attorneys, having come to the county in 1808. He was the father of Syracuse Sedgwick's and an uncle to the distinguished general of that name. He practiced but a short time here, but was regarded as one of the keenest intellects, and in the trial of causes was a match for Matthews. His intellectual powers were brilliant and fascinating, and he was gigantic in form He died early, the victim of intemperance." [History of Tioga, Chemung, Tompkins and Schuyler counties]

Children were: Henry James (1812), John (1814), and Charles Baldwin (1815).

• Find a grave memorial: Burial location unknown. He attended Yale college and probably studied at Litchfield Law School before practicing in Ithaca, NY. He and Anne divorced about 1818 and she married his law clerk, Samuel Gott in 1819. He died about 1830 in Cinncinnati, Ohio. (NOTE: Since no divorce record is currently available to support this statement, I have elected to leave the marraige as is currently indicated, rather than change the record to show a divorce)
