Armistead Thomson Mason lost his life in a famous duel with 
William McCarty. His only child, a son, was killed in the Mexican 
War. Miss Kate Mason Rowland has an oration by Armistead 
Thomson Mason delivered when a student, from the rostrum 
of Will1am and Mary College, July 4, 1807, subject, "The 
Restriction of Suffrage," printed in Richmond, Va., by S. Grant- 
land, 1807, at th« request of the students and faculty of William 
and Mary College.
