About Susan Richards

Susannah was the fifth child and the third daughter born to Edward Richards and Elizabeth Stewart. She grew up on the family farm/plantation 6.4 miles south east of Rocky Mount [between Sydnorsville and Sontag].

Susa married Robert Augustus Core Jones on June 17 1785 in Henry Co VA. Interestingly enough, she was three months short of her 16th birthday, while he was 37. Husband Robert was a native of England, being born near London. He was a literary man of some notoriety.

Robert and Susa must have lived close to her parents after marriage. Their children/spouses were: 1. Susan Jones [1785]? 2. Edward Jones [1786] +Betsey Hodges 3. Phoebe Jones [1788] +1.Stewart 2.England 4. Reuben Jones [1795] +Agnes Stewart 5. Elizabeth Jones [1796] +John Stephenson 6. Watemon Jones [1797] +Esther Stewart 7. Robert Jones [1801] VA died at age 12 8. Robert and Susannah Jones (twins) [1802]

Susannah died during the childbirth of her twins at age 32. Both twins also perished the same day. The families' grief must have been monumental. Husband Robert apparently made the pioneering move to Tennessee with the Richards, Stewart, Warren, England, and Hodges families in 1814. He passed away there c1828, and is buried in a place I have not found yet, presumably in Robertson County TN.

Sons Watemon and Reuben would move again in 1828 into Illinois, settling in Morgan County near present day Waverly. They were among the earliest settlers in that area. The Richards, Stewart, Warren, England, Chapman, and Adcock families settled about 7 miles to the south of Waverly and about 3 miles east of Modesto in Macoupin County during the same time period.
