Commissioned Lieutenant 25 Jul 1710, Colonel 25Apr 1742. He was Justice of the Peace in 1712 and 1729. He held a number of slaves, and set them free and settled them on land in Dartmouth.

The Richmond family had its origin in Brittany, France. The name was then "Richmonte." They came from Brittany with William the Conqueror.

John Richmond was born in 1594, in Wiltshire, England, at Ashton Keynes. He was one of the purchasers of Taunton, MA. in 1637. He was a large landholder and amassed considerable wealth for that time. He died in Taunton in 1664. His children were John b.1627; Edward b. 1632; Sarah b. 1638; Mary b. 1639.

John Richmond (2) settled in Taunton, Edward (2) in Newport. The Richmond family was very prominent in the Colonial Wars and also the War of the Revolution. Their motto on their Coat of Arms was, "Resolve well and persevere."

Edward Richmond (2) was born in 1632, probably before his father came to this country. He married first, Abigail, daughter of James Davis: children are, Abigail b.1656; Edward b. 1658; John b. 1660; Elizabeth b. 1666; Mary b. 1668; Esther b. 1669; SYLVESTER b. 1672; and Sarah.

Sylvester Richmond was commissioned Lieutenant July, 1710. On April 25, 1742 he was made A Colonel, by which title he was afterwards known. He held a number of slaves, and long before the Revolution, liberated and settled them in some woodlands in Dartmouth, MA. His children were:

Colonel Silvester Richmond (1672-1754), son of Edward Richmond and Abigail Davis and grandson of John Richmond also married a pilgrim wife. Silvester married Elizabeth Rogers in 1693. She was a niece of the Abigail Rogers who married Silvester's uncle John. Elizabeth's father was John Rogers, son of John Rogers and Ann Churchman and grandson of Thomas Rogers. Descendants of Silvester and Elizabeth have a second Mayflower line through her mother Elizabeth Pabodie whose parents were Hon. William Pabodie and Elizabeth Alden, the daughter of pilgrim John Alden and his wife Priscilla Mullins. Col. Silvester Richmond and his wife had 11 children to carry on this double Mayflower lineage.

 Silvester Richmond was born circa 1673 at Little Compton, RI. He was the son of Edward Richmond and Abigail Davis. Silvester Richmond married Elizabeth Rogers, daughter of John Rogers and Elizabeth Pabodie, in 1693. Silvester Richmond died on 20 November 1754 at Dartmouth. He m. (2) Duxbury, 18 Feb 1727/28 (int. 3 Dec 1727) Deborah (CUSHING) LORING, widow of Thomas LORING.
