Sen. Hansen's mother dies
Mrs. Sylvia Wood Hansen, mother of Senator Clifford Hanson and pioneer ranch-woman, died Saturday, January 24, at St. John's Hospital in Jackson. She was 90.
Mrs. Hansen lived in Wyoming from the age of seven, moving to Star Valley with her parents from Rockland, Idaho, where she was born Sept. 29, 1885. Her mother died two years after the family came to Wyoming and she was never away from the hard work of a pioneer ranch family.
In June 1906, she married Peter C. Hansen, the grandson of Mormon immigrants from Denmark who pushed their handcarts across the Midwest to Utah. He later helped organize Teton County.
In 1909, the moved to the Spring Gulch Ranch near Jackson, where they raised a family of six children.
Mrs. Hansen is survived by her six children:
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 26, at St. John's Episcopal Church in Jackson. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy may be made to St. John's Hospital in Jackson, where Mrs. Hansen served as member of the Board of Directors.
