His full name was Theodore Roosevelt Manderfield Armijo. When his mother divorced his father and married Eduardo M. Otero he changed his name to Otero. President Theodore Roosevelt was the Godfather at his Baptism in Santa Fe. His father, George Washington Armijo had served as Teddy Roosevelt's orderly in the Spanish American War, first as a Sergeant and later as a Captain. The two maintained close ties with each other and with other Rough Riders over the years.
