About Theophilus Cushing

Theophilus came to New England in 1633, on the ship Griffin, in company with Go

vernor Haynes and the eminent Puritan divines, Cotton and Hooker. For a time he resided on Hayne's farm with his friend (Afterwards the celebrated Governor Haynes) as his adviser and secretary. When his younger brother Matthew, following his example, came to New England, Theophilus, who appears never to have married, settled with him in Hingham, Massachusetts.
