Thomas Day (1639 - 1711) Thomas Day was the son of Robert Day (1604 - 1648). He was born in Hartford around 1639 and moved to Springfield, MA with his mother, Edith Stebbins Day, after she married Elizur Holyoke some time after 1659. His first wife had been Mary Pynchon. See Early Springfield, Massachusetts section for more on Elizur. Thomas Day married Sarah Cooper on Oct. 27, 1659. Her father, Lt. Thomas Cooper, was killed when Indians burned down the town. Lt. Thomas Cooper was on the first Springfield Board of Selectmen in 1644 and he was the Springfield Representative to the Massachusetts General Court in 1668. Thomas Day was appointed in 1700, with Luke Hitchcock, as fence viewer on the South side of the Aguam. Sarah died on Nov. 21, 1726. Thomas Day died on Dec. 27, 1711, see will of May 29, 1711 on next page. They had ten children:

Robert Day came from Ipswich. England, in the ship "Elizabeth," with his wife Mary; removed with Thomas Hooker and that company to Hartford, Conn., in 1636. He married Editha Stebbins, who came from England with her brother Edward Stebbins to Cambridge, Mass., in 1633, and removed to Hartford, Conn. Robert Day died , 1643.
Second Generation, Thomas Day, born , married October 27, 1659 Sarah Cooper, born in England, daughter of Lieut. THOMAS COOPER, who came from England in the ship "Christian," in 1635; removed to Springfield, Mass., and was killed by Indians October 5. 1675. Thomas Day died December 27, 1711. Mrs. Sarah Day died November 21, 1726.
Third Generation, Thomas Day, born November —, 1662. married Elisabeth Merrick.
(Thomas Merrick came from England to Roxbury. Mass., in 1636; removed to Hartford, Conn., in 1638 ; thence to Springfield. Mass. He married (second wife) 1653, Elizabeth Tilley, daughter of William Tilley, from England in the ship "Abigail," in 1635, with his wife Alice.
Second Generation, Elizabeth Merrick, born , 1661, married Thomas Day. Thomas Day removed to Colchester, Conn., about 1705, where he died.
The lineage of this family is traced back to Thomas Day, who resided at West Springfield, Massachusetts. He died December 27, 1711. He married Sarah, daughter of Thomas Cooper, born in 1619, died October 27, 1675. Thomas Cooper was a lieutenant and commanded Brookfield, Massachusetts, forces. He was killed at the burning of Springfield, Massachusetts. Mrs. Day died November 21, 1726. Thomas Day, son of Robert Day of Hartford, married Sarah COOPER, daughter of Lieut. Thomas Cooper, who was born before her father came to Springfield. He died December 27, 1711, and his widow died November 21, 1726. Their children were:--
