Thomas was born 28 months after the birth and death of his brother, who had also been given the name of Thomas Allen . This is sometimes confusing to those who seek his name. Thomas came to America with his parents in 1852 and endured the long trip with handcarts as a youth of nine years. After his father made their home for them in Wellsville , Thomas followed his example in becoming involved in the community as well as in the church. He helped dig the East Field Canal in Wellsville . He hauled lumber to build the Wellsville Tabernacle. He served as city councilman, Justice of the Peace, City Recorder and School Trustee. He was president of the East Field Canal Board. He helped bring pioneers from Missouri in 1863 , and he served a mission to England for the church. He was loved and respected by all.
