Thomas McKibbin Jr came with his parents to the United States in 1812 when he was six
years old. He had many brother's and sisters, including little Mary, who died as an infant
on the way over. The McKibbins settled in Turkeyfoot Township, Somerset County, PA
near relatives, but since they were farmers, they wanted to go west to Ohio and Indiana.
They went west with the Murrays, Smiths, Zeiglers and others to Ohio, and for a time they
settled in Ohio where Thomas McKibbin III was born. After that, they moved on to Wauseon,
Fulton County, Ohio where Thomas McKibbin Jr settled with his wife Eleanor Bayes and
her family. The rest of the family went on to Indiana and settled, which was really just
across the border in La Grange. Thomas McKibbin Jr married Eleanor Bayes, the daughter
of Thomas Bayes and Anna Wright McMillen. They had several children including Thomas
McKibbin III who married a Miss Wires, and Robert Irvine McKibbin, named after his
uncle, who married Nancy Jane Fairchild, the daughter of Sherman Fairchild and Jane
Adeline Danforth. The others were William McKibbin, Mary McKibbin, Catherine
McKibbin and Jane McKibbin. Jane McKibbin married William Garman, a Civil War vet
like her brothers, and Mary McKibbin married her cousin Thomas McKibbin. The
McKibbin family bible is in the possession of Marilyn McKibbin and it has a lot of
information about this family that came from Comber, Ulster, Northern Ireland.
