"Thomas Newton (1742-1807) was a representative to the House of Burgesses for Norfolk County from 1765 to 1775. He also participated in the revolutionary conventions of 1775 and 1776. Thomas Newton (1742-1807) was a "Colonel in the Virginia Militia [during the American Revolutionary War]. In command of the militia of Norfolk Borough in 1780 & 1781, was commissioner of supplies, supplying the French Army and the fleet during the siege of Yorktown. Commissioner of Admiralty in 1776 -- Colonel Commandant militia of Norfolk Co., Sept. 1781." -- Volume 29, p. 516-519 and Volume 30, p. 85-88, "Virginia Magazine of History and Biography."
