About Thomas Sparks

See THE SPARKS QUARTERLY, June 1991, Whole No . 154, page 3753:

"Land records in Queen Annes County prove that this first William Sparks had come to Maryland from Hampshire County, England, at least as early as 1670, as had also his brother, John Sparks. Recent research strongly suggests that they were sons of Thomas and Joane (Davis) Sparks who had been married in Fareham Parish in Hampshire County, England, on October 19 , 1635.

"Among the children of Thomas and Joane was a son named William Sparks, baptised on August 6, 1646, and a son named John Sparks, baptized on December 3, 1649. They also had two other sons baptized in the Fareham Parish,Church: Francis Sparks, baptized on July 20, 1641, and Richard Sparks, baptised on December 10, 1658."

The World Family Tree disk Vol. 2, file 5319, shows Thomas and Joane and their descendants for seven generations down to the great-great-grandfather of James J. Sparks, Solomon Sr. -------------------- According to The Sparks Quarterly, Whole No. 154:

That website began in the 1950's collecting information about the Sparks Family and has a quarterly which contains updates and more and more information each year. When/if there is a conflict between information from this site and Ancestry.com, I deferred to this site as the more factual.

Thomas and Joane (Davis) Sparks were married in Fareham Parish, Hampshire Country, England on Oct. 19, 1635. Their four children were baptiszed there as follows: Francis Sparks, July 20, 1641; William Sparks, Aug. 6, 1646; John, Dec. 3, 1649; and Richard, Dec. 10, 1658.

William (later referred to as William, Sr.) is my direct line and has his own entry

For brevity sake, I will only put in information about Thomas's other children here and continue with William's information under his own section.

JOHN (b. 1649) came to Maryland, American Colonies either with or about the same time as his brother William. There are some records which indicate that John had left children (sons George and John) in England when he and his wife Elinor came to America. [Note: in 1716, John was a butcher and George was a glove maker.] There is also record of a third son (William) who died by drowning March 16, 1686 in Hampshire England. John (the father) died in about 1700 at Queen Anne's County, MD, American Colonies. He left 100 acres of land called "Bucks Hill" to his sons in his will - provided "Either of them Comes to Enjoy it." They did not ever come to America so it passed into the possession of his nephew William. William later sold the property to William Comegys (a Swedish man) of Kent County (Kent County Land Records JS #N, pp. 248-49). There was a lawsuit started in England (dated Oct. 23, 1716) to get the property back (or at least claim the profits from the sale of it) by using a power-of-Attorney (a sailor) named Hugh Arbuthnott. However, as neither of the sons came to America themselves as specified, it was a lost cause for the sons. More details about John's life and his Will is found in the sparksfamilyassn.org March 1971 issue in the article: "Sparks Families in Kent, Talbot and Queen Anne Counties, Maryland."

RICHARD, b. 1658, married a lady named Mary. Their children are not listed.

FRANCIS, b. 1641 was the oldest son and had no wife or children listed.
