William I. Steele, son of William Steele and Mary Shauger, was born in Morris Co., New Jersey. He married with JANE E. DOBBINS, at Plymouth, Sheboygan Co., Wisconsin on Feb. 2, 1853. She was born 1837; died 1901; he died Oct. 26, 1909 in Thorp, Clark Co., Wisconsin and is buried at East Cemetery, Thorp, Clark Co. Wisconsin.
Children were: Charlotte Jane (1854-1903; m. Hommel), Thomas I. (1859-1949), Hughietta (1867-1895; m. Smith), Ida M. (1869-1950; m. Richelieu), Alice Maude (1873-1934; m. Aucutt), and Arthur F. (1875-1904).
Thomas Steele enlisted into Co., C, 4th Wisconsin Cavalry on Nov. 3, 1863. At the time of enlistment he was residing in Plymouth, Wisconsin. He mustered out with the rank of Corporal on Aug. 22, 1865. He was residing in Greenwood, Wisconsin in 1885 and Thorp, WIsconsin in 1905 according to the Wisconsin veterans census records.
