~MY ANCESTOR~

The son of RICHARD & ISABEL (HARDING) BALDWIN, he was baptized in Cholesbury, Buckinghamshire, England. His father died in 1632 and Timothy was named executor of his will. In 1638 he immigrated to Boston & then Milford in the Colony of New Haven accompanied by the wife of his second cousin, SYLVESTER BALDWIN, who died at sea on his journey to New England (See memorial of SARAH BRYAN BALDWIN). Timothy had a lot reserved for him in New Haven, but he went to Milford instead. He was a free planter in Milford on Nov. 29, 1639 and had homelot #22.

In 1642, he married MARY WELLES, daughter of GOV. THOMAS WELLES and his wife, ALICE (TOMES) WELLES. Timothy & Mary Baldwin joined the church in Milford in 1643. She died in 1647 leaving her husband and three small children including my ancestor, HANNAH (BALDWIN) BOTSFORD, Mary Baldwin Smith, Sarah Baldwin Buckingham and son, Timothy Baldwin who died young. The family removed to Guilford and while there, he married Mary, widow of John Mepham, on March 5, 1649. They returned to Milford by 1651. His will written January 31, 1664/5, was signed by my ancestors, GEORGE CLARK SR. & GEORGE CLARK, JR., and his inventory taken Feb. 6th, 1664 was œ529-18-06. In his will he mentions daughters: Mary Smith (wife of Benjain Smith), Hannah Baldwin (married Elnathan Botsford), and Sarah Buckingham; and son, Timothy Baldwin; his wife (not by name) was appointed sole executrix.

______________________________

Birth Date 1605 or 1616

Timothy Baldwin, of Milford, Conn., one of the first settlers, in 1639; joined the Church there in 1643, with MARY, his wife, who died July 31, 1647. He was the eldest son of Richard Baldwin, of Cholesbury, Buckinghamshire, England, whose will was made in 1633, and Timothy was executor. He was the brother of Nathaniel, as evidenced from an entry from the long, narrow book of Milford Records, transcribed in 1700 by Richard Bryan, by order of the town.

See Update 9/18.2011 on wife? Mary Welles Profile page

Timothy lived for a while in Guilford, Conn.,since he married, on Mar, 5,1645 (this has to be an error, since his wife Mary still lived until 1647) with MARY MEPHAM, widow of John, of Guilford. About 1651 or 1652 they sold the Guilford property and moved back to Milford. Her son, by John Mepham, also named John, move to Southhampton, Long Island, NY. She joined the Church in Milford in Dec. of 1653. He died the night following Jan. 17,1664/65.She remarried with Thomas Tapping, of Milford.

Timothy's stepson, John Mepham, was remembered in his will.

If we calculate that he married Mary Mepham circa 1648 then the children would be:

By Mary (1st wife): Mary (c1643), Hannah (c1644), Sarah (c1645). By Mary (2nd wife): Abigail (1650), Anne (1655), and Timothy (1658).

Mary2 had no children by her 3rd husband (Tapping).
