About Timothy Fuller

Timothy Fuller Birth: Aug. 29, 1695 East Haddam Middlesex County Connecticut, USA Death: 1714 East Haddam Middlesex County Connecticut, USA

Timothy Fuller, eldest child of Timothy Fuller by his 1st wife Sarah Gates, b. of record Aug. 29, 1695 at East Haddam, Conn. He was bapt. with the rest of his then living siblings Nov. 10, 1704 at the East Haddam, Conn. 1st Cong. Church:

"All [of] Timothy Fuller's childs; ye living were baptized, namely Timothy, Matthias, Mary, Sarah and Abigail."

When Timothy specifically d. in unknown; the Homer W. Brainerd manuscript that includes this family published in the NYBGR in 1902 claims he died in 1714.

East Haddam's Old Cove Burying Ground was a communal burying place. Interments were made without regard for reservation of specific placement of a person next to or perhaps even close to another family member. Until circa 1740 there was no skilled stone mason or gravestone carver available, resulting in only initialed field stones used as markers.

In a 1934 inventory of the burying ground that became part of the Hale Connecticut Cemetery Database, along with actual erect gravestones a considerable number of both distinguishable and nondistinguishable fieldstone markers were itemized, including the following in the order shown but not necessarily one after the other:

• T. F., field stone, date illegible. • A. F., field stone, 1714 [prob. infant Abigail Fuller]. • T. F., field stone, date illegible. • A. F., field stone, 1714 [probably Timothy's dau. Abigail]. • F., field stone, date illegible. • S. F., field stone, date illegible. • Fuller, Mary, wife of Timothy, died Dec 12, 1770, age 73 [sic 78] yrs. • M. F., field stone, date illegible. • Fuller, Timothy, died Nov 30, 1748, age 78 yrs. • M. F., field stone, 1726.

It is believed Timothy Fuller, the infant son of Timothy Fuller by his 1st wife Sarah Gates b. in 1695 and bapt. in 1704, is the first fieldstone above marked with the initials "T. F."
