CHINLE, Ariz. — Services for Tom Hunter, 78, were 10 a.m. today at Catholic Church, Chinle. Father Caron Vollmer officiated. Burial followed at family land, Chinle.

Hunter died June 1 in Chinle. He was born Dec. 25, 1924, in Chinle into the Bitterwater People Clan for the Towering House People Clan.

Hunter served in the Marines during World War II, as a Navajo Code Talker.

Survivors include his wife, Roselyn Hunter; sons, Richard Holtsoi, Thomas Hunter, Joseph M. Hunter and John N. Hunter all of Chinle; daughters, Eunice Robbins of Tempe, Ariz., Ethelyn Moccasin of Frazier, Mont., Lorraine Littlebear of Fort Yates, N.D., Christine Robbins of Chinle and Ruby Hunter of Glendale, Ariz.; brothers, Wilson Hunter Sr., Joe Hunter Sr. and Johnson Hunter all of Chinle; 19 grandchildren; and four grandchildren.

Hunter was preceded in death by his parents, Hosteen and Ahinanabah Hunter and brothers, John Hunter and Oscar "Archie" Hunter.

Pallbearers were Ronald Moccasin, Kevin Littlebear, Shaun Spencer, Orlando Spencer, Timothy Todecheene and Elmer Flyinghorse.

Tse Bonito Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
