Ulrich was a farmer, from the district of Erquel, Canton of Berne, Switzerland. Arrived in America at Philadelphia, October 1, 1754, aboard the ship Phoenix. He had started the trip with a wife and daughter, Anna, but his wife died on board ship. On the same ship was another passenger, Magdalena Baumgarrtren, who had accompanied a man and woman who reared her as an orphan.

Ulrich purchased 129-1/2 acres in Hellam Twp., York County, Pennsylvania, April 11, 1763 for the sum of twenty pounds, one shilling and four pence.
