Walter CHILES II was born on 20 Mar 1607/8 in Saint Mary Redcliff Parish, Bristol, County Somerset, England. He was baptized in 1609 in Saint Mary Redcliffe Cathedral, Bristol, England. On 24 Jul 1637 he was cloth worker; then assistant to the purser of the ship "Blessing" in Bristol, England. (From the "High Court of Admiralty Examinations", No. 301, Vol. 53, at
London, England.) He immigrated on 1 Mar 1638 to James Town, Virginia. In 1638 he was ship owner in Virginia. He served as as a member of the Assembly in 1641 in Virginia. He was elected as as a member of the House of Burgesses between 1642 and 1643 in Charles City, Charles City County, Virginia. He served as as a member of the House of Burgesses between 1645 and 1649 in Charles City, Charles City County, Virginia. He owned the "Kemp House," the first brick house in America in 1649 in James Town, Virginia. (The house was purchased from Governor Berkeley in exchange for 26,000
pounds of tobacco.) From 1651 to 1652 he was ship owner, "The Fame of Virginia" in England-Holland-Virginia. (This ship was taken by force by Captain Richard Husband and the crew
of the "Hopeful Adventure", on the grounds that Captain Chiles had no
license. It was ordered released by the Virginia authorities, but this
had no effect.) He was elected as Speaker of the Assembly in Jun 1652 in Virginia. In 1652 he was ship owner, "Leopoldas" in Virginia. (He was given this ship by the Virginia House of Burgesses, after it
was confiscated from its original owners for a violation of the
Navigation Laws. This was a replacement for "The Fame of Virginia.") He died about 1671. Parents: Walter CHILES I and Elizabeth MAURY.
Spouse: Elizabeth SANDERS. Walter CHILES II and Elizabeth SANDERS were married in Jun 1630 in Bristol, England. Children were: Walter CHILES III, William CHILES.
