About Walter Freeman

Cyclopedia of NZ states he was born in London and emigrated to New Zealand with his parents on the "New Era" in 1855. However he would have been an infant and he is not in the "New Era" passenger list.

Caterer in Wellington and later Palmerston North specialising in large gatherings such as race meetings and excursion train picnics.

Hotel proprietor --- Barrett's Hotel in Wellington, Island Bay Hotel and various hotels in Palmerston North.

Owner of a farm in Berhampore.

Walter's cousin, Robert Freeman, came from "Home" and visited his Berhampore farm. On 15 Apr 1885, Robert broke his leg there in a pony riding accident and Robert's leg had to be amputated below the knee.

Proprietor of the Palmerston North, Otaki, Aramoho and Patea railway refreshment rooms.
