About Walter Veach, Choctaw Code Talker

Code Talker Walter Veach, 142nd Infantry, Born May 18, 1884. He was from Durant, Oklahoma. Daughter Jeanette Veach Brinkerhoff submitted this information on her father. Veach helped organize Company H, 1st Infantry and served as its commander. (Durant Oklahoma's first National Guard Unit) Under his command, Company H, brough down the Crazy Snake uprising near Henryetta, Oklahoma in the old Muskogee Creek Nation. Later detailed to Patrol the border between the United States and Mexico, the company had a major hand in stopping the Pancho Villa invasion of Texas.

In 1917, the company merged with the 36th Divisiion and was sent to France. Veach, a Captain, with the all-Indian Company E, saw much activity during the war.
