A prominant banker from San Francisco, California, Dodge boarded the Titanic at Southampton with his wife Ruth and Washington Dodge Jr their only son. Travelling as first class passengers, the family occupied cabin A-34 (ticket number 33638, £81 17s 2d).
Dr Dodge was rescued in lifeboat 13.
He later suffered a breakdown and shot himself, dying on 30th June, 1919
Dr. Washington Dodge
Dr. Washington Dodge shot himself in the head on June 30, 1919. Dr. Dodge was reportedly under investigation in a Watergate-type corruption probe, and it’s not likely that traumatic memories of the Titanic disaster had much to do with his decision to commit suicide.
