About Willem Adriaan van Aardt, Sr.

Information provided by Pieter Van Aardt 10 August 2008.

The variations of the family name was now determined as being VAN AARDT.

At the age of 22 Willem Adriaan VAN AARDT married Maria Susanna TREGARDT, a sister of Louis TREGARDT who was a prominent figure in the events on the Eastern Frontier.
The couple lived on the farm Verkeeerde Water on the western bank of the Great Fish River that formed the boundary between the Cape Colony and the Xhosa Territory. As such, due to the situation, this farm was often in the limelight, even more so as a result of the fact that a military unit was stationed at the fort Van Aardtpos (Van Aardt Post) on this form. The farm had formerly been known as Longhope Station and was the place where the Slagtersnek Rebels were executed.
The first child from this marriage died as an infant. The second child was born on the farm Verkeerde Water on the 5th February 1798.
