About William Adams
"...William was born in Hisselborough, Down, Ireland. He attended school at the Belfast Academical School Institution.
He Joined the LDS Church and came to Utah with his wife Mary Ann Leech and their son. in 1849, driving an ox team across the plains.
He left Salt Lake City in December 1850, traveling through two feet of snow before reaching Parowan.
He married his second wife Mary Barbara Bolanz in 1864. He went to San Juan County in 1882 living in the Bluff fort for the first year. In 1888 he brought his family to Monticello, errecting the fist house in the new town. After a few years there, failing healh the the extreme winters forced him to return to Bluff, where he died in 1901.
He served his church and community in many responsible postitions. President of the Parowan Co-op and United Manufacturing companies, LDS missionary, and a member of the San Juan Stake Presidency.
He had a keen sense of humor and delited in telling Irish jokes and singing Irish songs..."
