WILLIAM M'DONALD, WAR VETERAN, DIES
Retired Steel Maker Passes Away at Son's Home - Lived Here 23 Years.
William MacDonald, Civil War veteran and retired steel worker, died at the home of his son, William MacDonald, 554 Sherwood Ave, at 1:55 a.m. Monday of complications.
Mr. MacDonald was born in Pennsylvania, August 28, 1847, the son of Patrick and Christiana Foster MacDonald. He came to Youngstown 23 years ago from Wheeling, W. Va., and had remained here since that time. His wife, Mary Stewart MacDonald preceeded him in death seven years ago. Mr. MacDonald served as a private during the Civil War He was a member of Co . E. Fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania heavy Artillery.
Surviving are the following children; Mrs. Thomas Crane, Pittsburgh, William MacDonald, Youngstown; Stewart, Wilkinsburg, Pa; Charles, Pittsburgh, Floyd, Weeling W. Va. and Thomas and Edgar MacDonald of McDonald.
The folloing brothers and sisters also survive, Mrs. Mary Davis, Mrs. Margaret Cooper, Mrs. Helen Derby, Thomas, Joseph, and Louis MacDonald all of Youngstown; Robert of Bellaire, Samuel of California and Charles of Duquesne, Pa.
Services will be held at the residence Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. Interrment will be in Tod Cemetery. Rev. Brevis will officiate.
William was 17 years old when he mustered in the Civil War. He stated that he had light hair and a fair complexion, as well as blue eyes and 5'5" in height. He signed with his mark.
