 "OBITUARY. Died - On Wednesday, March 26th 1879 of dropsy of the heart, William McKee, aged 71 years, 9 months,  and 15 days."   

William McKee was born in Jefferson County, Tennessee, June 11th, 1807, where he continued to reside until he  was near 33 years old, marrying his first wife, a Miss Fankersly, in Tennessee. But financial misfortunes overtaking 

him he determined to emigrate to Indiana, and located near Lockporte, in Vigo County, where his wife died, leaving a family of small children to his care, yet, being a man of robust constitution, and possessing superior mental powers, did not give up all hope to despondency, but pressed forward to accomplish the work the great Ruler of all things had placed before him to do: Raise the family committed to his care, in an intelligent and respectable manner - a duty which no man in this country has nearer succeeded in doing than he.

 In the year 1849 he removed to this country and was married to Mrs. Julia Ann Holtsclaw, who survives him.  Soon after his second marriage he located upon the farm where he lived until his death. Although having never identified himself with any religious denomination, he gave satisfactory evidences during his last sickness of  a happy eternity. A widow, a large family of children and friends remain to mourn his departure.
