William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire1

William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire was born on 14 December 1748.1 He was the son of William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire and Charlotte Elizabeth Boyle, Baroness Clifford.1 He married, firstly, Lady Georgiana Spencer, daughter of John Spencer, 1st Earl Spencer and Margaret Georgiana Poyntz, on 5 June 1774.3 He married, secondly, Lady Elizabeth Hervey, daughter of Rt. Rev. Frederick Augustus Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol and Elizabeth Davers, on 19 October 1809.4 He died on 29 July 1811 at age 62.1

    William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire succeeded to the title of 7th Lord Clifford [E., 1628] on 24 December 1754.1 He succeeded to the title of 8th Earl of Devonshire [E., 1618] on 2 October 1764.4 He succeeded to the title of 8th Baron Cavendish of Hardwick, co. Derby [E., 1605] on 2 October 1764.4 He succeeded to the title of 5th Duke of Devonshire [E., 1694] on 2 October 1764.4 He succeeded to the title of 5th Marquess of Hartington, co. Derby [E., 1694] on 2 October 1764.4 He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1782.4
