William and Margaret(Westofer) Drake had 8 children (Drake genealogy, pp xv,

xvi)

of which is stated that: Joan, child 4; Elizabeth, child 6 and Thomas, child

8 all emigrated to America. I have read of the volumeous arrival of

immigrants and ships to the colonies during this and earlier time periods. I

highly suspect the computers of the "dock watchers" developed a "glitch" and

were cut off line when the ships docked and passengers came thundering down

the gang planks to kiss mother earth, trampling everthing and everyone in

their path. Because of this, I seriously doubt we will ever see a ships name

or passenger list showing the 3 Drake names. But then again, pleasent

surprises happen.

The Drake genealogy (1896) states that the will of William Drake is still in

existence. Although it lists it as being: P.C.C. Coventry 25, it was not

printed in the genealogy. If the children were listed in the will, this would

confirm another

generation from William and Margaret and might cease the controversy as to

whether Thomas and his sisters were the children of William Drake and his

wife

Margaret Westofer/Westover.

Your input was very much appreciated, Adrian, a great many thanks. Now could

we see the will P.C.C. Coventry 25 you are holding for the next post? Just

joking here, but I hope it surfaces. Thanks also to everyone who is trying to

put together another piece of their family puzzle. Earl. e1091@aol.com

This will should be quite easy to locate at the Family History
Library in Salt Lake City. "P.C.C." stands for the Prerogative
Court of Canterbury. In the registered P.C.C. wills, each year
was given a name (generally the first will to be registered for
that year), in this case "Coventry", and wills are cited by
these names rather than by the year of probate. These volumes
have groups of about 16 pages which each receive the same
number, so the "25" would refer to a group of 16 pages which are
after the "24" group and before the "26" group. In most
volumes, only the first page of each group is numbered, so you
often have to scan several pages just to see which numbered
group you are in. Once you find the first page of group 25, it
should then just be a matter of checking the next 16 pages to
find the will in question. (The names of the testators are
usually written in the margins.) Of course, the above comment
assumes that the citation "P.C.C. Coventry 25" has been
correctly given. (Actually, it would be more conventional to
give the citation in the form "P.C.C. 25 Coventry", but that is
a minor point.) You don't need to live in Salt Lake City to get
a copy of the microfilm of a P.C.C. will. You just need to live
close to one of the many branch Family History Centers, which
can order the film for you at a nominal fee. (I have done this
on numerous occasions for English wills which I wanted to check
out.) The correct film number for a P.C.C. will can be found by
looking in the locality catalog of the Family History Library,
under ENGLAND-PROBATE RECORDS. (Of course, if you happen to live
in the U.K., it might be easier to just go to the Public Record
   Office.)
