About William Hudson, Sr.
Hudson name dated back to 1066 in the county of Yorkshire, England traditionally believed to be descendants of the Lord of Hoddleston by European genealogist. The Lords of Hoddleston occupied the castle Millom in Cumberland on the coast of the Irish sea. After the fall of the Roman Empire there was fierce rivalry bet. Norman's and Saxons over Yorkshire and area round the Rhine Valley. Battle of Hastings 1066 found the Norman's as conquerors although the early ancestors of the Hudson family remained. It appears that the immediate descendant of Sir Richard Hoddleston were known as the sons of Hudde (Hudson).
From Ian Chadwick's information:
The explorer's grandfather father had eight sons - including Thomas, John, Edward, Christopher(?), (William? see below) and Henry.
William Hudson, born 1528 (?) has been reported as Henry's uncle. William had a son, also named William, who married Alice Turner. They had a son, Richard, born 1605 in Tamworth, Staffordshire. Richard sailed to Virginia in 1635 on the 'Safety.' -------------------- William Hudson, born Abt. 1528/40. Founder of the Muscovy Company
