About William LeRoy 'Bill' Cornett

Was heavy mechanic during WW-II, spent some time in Alaska during mini-gold rush, and some prospecting with father in Arizona. Became teacher after back injury. Collected minerals; avid photographer. Jack-of-all-trades; what ever he set his mind to, he could do (except sing). Doris's first view of Bill was his feet - sticking out from under a tractor he was working on -- at a Neely farm.

Ran a laundromat.

Lady came in 10 munutes before closing of the laudromat that Doris ran; the lady said "May speak to your husband?" Doris "saw red"; one of the few times she remembers being really angry.

She also recalls the time a lady got her breast caught in the wringer roll. Talk about blood-curdling scream! Doris was close enough to quickly release the catch.

Bought house Aug, 9, 1950, but did not move in until after Koneta was born.

The houses had nothing between the yards; the neighbors would often share meals outdoors in someone's backyard. Melody Davis (next-door neighbor) crawled over to the Cornett house before she could walk. Koneta bit Winnie's toe (Melody's mom) while crawling around the kitchen table (Winnie often went barefoot). Melody's birthday was a week apart from Koneta's.

Ray Hare (across the street neightbor) & Doris would often go to church early to teach Sunday School; Bill & Eleanor Hare would come later with all the kids -- it took a while for some people at church to 'sort out' who belonged to whom!
