--------------------

William Mountfort was an 1820 settler in the Cape Colony. He, and his family, were members of Liversage's Party - "a joint-stock party whose members were artisans and labourers from the parish of Burslem" (Nash (1987) The Settler Handbook, p. 87). The party sailed from Liverpool on the John on 13 February 1820 and reached Algoa Bay during May. Mountfort and his family settled in Manley's Flat and his grave can been seen at the small church there.

In Hockly's The story of the British Settlers of 1820 in South Africa, the surname appears as 'Mountford' but the rest of the details and ages remain the same.
