William Shappee's Timeline

April 6, 1908
Casco Township, Allegan, MI

This is an early photo of the Shappee farm. It is undated, but possibly taken around 1930-1935. It was taken as part of an appraisal for improvements, including green shutters. There is a larger, intact copy of this photo in the possession of the current owners of the property.

Age 8
Allegan, Michigan, United States

Photos taken during a family occasion. I estimate the year as 1917 owing to Frances, who looks around two years old. I love the Indian headdress on Jonnie; he used to call himself "The Chief" when I was a child. Notice the bare feet.

Age 16
Casco Township, Allegan, Michigan

The first McDowell School burned down in 1937.

Age 21
Allegan County, Michigan, United States

The 1930 U.S. Census of Michigan.

- 1935
Age 21
Casco Township, Allegan, Michigan, United States

The family's cows were taken to "The Flats" and brought home daily. The Flats was a piece of land along the Black River, close to Hawkhead Road. The Shappees had an impressive team of horses. These photos are undated, so I have estimated the time period. The photos were mostly taken by Jonathan Shappee.
