William Stirk (30), farmer, together with his brother Joseph Stirk (18), were members of Jonathan Wainwright's Party of 24 Settlers on the John.

Party originated from Yorkshire, England.

Departed Liverpool, 13 January 1820. Arrived Table Bay, Cape Town on 19 April 1820. Final Port - Algoa Bay, Port Elizabeth May 1820.

Area Allocated to the Party : Harewood, Lynedoch River.


Joseph Stirk and his brother William came out in Wainwright's Party of settlers from Yorkshire on the ship 'John". They were 18 & 30 years respectively. William married Elizabeth, daughter of Charles Mouncey on 6 May 1824. They had 3 daughters. After his first wife's death, William married Ann Matthias, a widow, in June 1842. He died 2 Oct 1850.
