The lore: Ysidra "Sidra" Estrella Cojuangco had a love affair with General Antonio Luna, a fiery officer who fought the wars against Spain and the United States. Over the years, the general brought caskets of gold (spoils of war that constituted the revolutionary treasury) to Ysidra for safekeeping. When Luna was assasinated in Cabanatuan, the gold was never retrieved.
The fact: By 1901, in less than five years after resettling in Tarlac, Ysidra, along with brother Melecio and father Jose, managed to buy almost 2,000 hectares of agricultural land ,along the railway in Paniqui, well up to Nueva Ecija and Pangasinan. At its peak, the Cojuangco family owned as much as 12,000 hectares. More here: http://bitly.com/pJYEKC
