About Zelotes Kendall

On January 28, 1865, Zelotes' widow Sarah filed for pension based on his service in the 1st Vermont Heavy Artillery Regiment, Company F.

Zelotes first enlisted October 20, 1862 as Private and was assigned to 14th Vermont Infantry, Company K. He mustered out July 30, 1863 and reenlisted November 30, 1863. He was Private in Company F of 11th Vermont Infantry which became the 1st Vermont Heavy Artillery Regiment.

Zelotes was wounded in the Battle of Cold Harbor June 1, 1864 and his military record says it was a mortal wound, which he died from on October 30. It can only be assumed a contributing factor to his death, as his death record states he died of chronic diarrhea in Derby Line, Vermont.

Zelotes died of chronic diarrhea at home in Derby Line, Vermont in October, 1864, that was a common ailment in his Army regiment.

The coat that Zelotes Kendall is wearing in the photos is probably not a military dress uniform, but could be military issue.
