About Zvi Michalowski
Zvi Michalowski was sixteen years old, a survivor of the massacre on 26 September in which his father had been killed, and the Jews of Eksziszki were led away to specially prepared pits, where they were shot.
Zvi had fallen into the pit a fraction of a second before the volley of shots killed those next to him. Naked and covered with blood he made his way to a number of nearby Christian homes. None of those who opened the door would allow him in. He was told to go back to the grave where he belonged. All the houses he went to gave the same furious message.
He returned to one of those houses, desperate for shelter, and told the story that he was the Lord, Jesus Christ. That he had come down, suffering the blood of the innocent and would bless the peasant's children if she allowed him in.
She opened the door, and he was allowed in, promising to bless her children only if she kept his whereabouts a secret, not to be revealed to anyone.
He left the house three days later, once more reminding her that the Lord's visist must remain a secret between them.
Dressed in farmers clothing with a supply of food for a few days, the young man made his way to a forest, and was to survive the war in hiding, as a partisan.
