Steen Sehested Maltesen to Holmgaard ( January 11 1553 at Kloster Gudum - 22 August 1611 at Kalmar Castle ) was a Danish national coat marsh .

He was born on 11th (Or 12) on January Gudum monastery, which his father, Malte Jensen Sehested , had in fief. When he was about 15 years, he was sent abroad to be trained by German nobility men. He was then (about 1572 ) in the Dutch military service and remained here for 14 years and advanced from kid to lieutenant colonel until he in 1586 fell into Spanish captivity. However, when he immediately called the home of Frederick second , the Spaniards were kind enough to give him freedom.

On his return he was in 1586 appointed Lord Chamberlain , and also colonel of commitment to recruiting a regiment when it was desired.

The eighth October 1592 , he held on Vidskøfte wedding with Anne Brahe ( 1576 - 1635 ), daughter of Henry Brahe , a connection with one of the major lineages, which probably was irrelevant to his future career. Already after 4 years he abandoned hofstillingen and became sheriff, first at Kronborg (1590-95), then on Båhus (1595), of Heine's Church (1606), in Varberg (1608) and Vestervig (1610), also he was from 1606 to his death endowed with Froste Shire .

As an experienced soldier, he became 1589 member of a commission to investigate Akershus 'fortifications, and as commander of Båhus he was given the task of increasing the fortress defense capability, a task he must be solved with skill. As the Christian fourth in 1606 visited his brother in England, the Sehested have been responsible for the Norwegian authorities, and in 1607 he was admitted into the Privy Council in which he a few days after the king came to Nobles in Stavanger . In 1610 he became Foreign marsh where he started the following year became involved in the Kalmar War . Western Army, as during the spring gathering in Halland were placed under his leadership, and in June he moved with about 7,000 men against Elfsborg , but hardly had he arrived before an order from the king commanded him to rush this to help in Kalmar . When he arrived in Kalmar, the city was in possession of the Danes, but the castle was held besieged by them until it surrendered third august. The conquest of Oland in the following days brought him to the island, but hardly had he got back to camp before he became ill. He moved up at Kalmar Castle, and here he died the night of 22nd and 23 august.

In addition to ancestral farm Holmgaard in Skodborg Herred he owned in Skåne Løberød which he got by his marriage, and Hviderup , which he bought in 1604. On both these latter farms built his childless widow new main buildings.

An epitaph for him from 1620 with a family tree found in Gårdstånge Church .
