When he signed-on to the Titanic on 6 April1912 he was living at Tanner's Lane, East End, Near Lymington.2 He had transferred from the Oceanic. As firemens' messman he received monthly wages of £6.3

The only Thomas Knowles of appropriate age in Hampshire in 1881 was Thomas Knowles, aged 11, of 1 Goaters Alley, Holy Rood, Southampton. Living with his father Benjamin (a dock Labourer), mother Elizabeth and five siblings. If this is the correct person Knowles would have been 42 in 1912.
