Mr James Jukes, 35, of Moorgreen Road, West End, Southampton was one of seven children. His father was head miller at Gater's Hill Mill. James, known to the family as "our Jim" had been preparing to get married at the time of the sinking.

James Jukes signed-on to the Titanic as a Greaser in Southampton on 6 April. He stated that he was born at Somerset and that his previous ship was the Oceanic. His wages were £6 10s per month.

Jukes died in the sinking. His body, if recovered, was never identified.

A memorial to James Jukes was recently unveiled at the West End Museum and Heritage Centre, Southampton. The memorial also remembers another West End Resident, Sir Arthur Rostron of the Carpathia.
