About ... von Reinach
In the 15th through 19th centuries, the von Reinach family was thought to be a branch of the von Habsburgs based on the similarity of their coats of arms. There is no evidence of relationship beyond that similarity. The Habsburg coat of arms is Or, a lion rampant Gules crowned Azure. The Reinach coat of arms is Or, a lion rampant Gules, headed Azure. In the 13th century this type of differencing was known both for cadets and for vassals. No other Habsburg vassals showed the feudal relationship by using a version of the Habsburg arms, but a genealogical connection between the families is now controversial.
