Served in World War 1 Transportation Corp, New Jersey PA Troops from Trenton NJ, Transported munitions to the front on trucks and wagons. Transported the wounded or dead to the rear. The German Artillery use to use artillery to see if they could hit the trucks coming and going for fun especially if loaded with munitions. Once he got lost driving in blizzard in the snow to the rear and had a load of wounded men. He found a cave with a hibernating bear in it and got all the wounded into the cave, patched up the soldiers as best he could with the limited medical supplies he had also the medic pouches the soldiers had and all slept with the bear. The next morning he loaded the soldiers back on the truck and took them to the Aid Station.
