Profiles

The Aleksander chasidic movement flourished in Poland from 1880 until it was decimated by Nazi Germany during World War II. Now nearly extinct, the Aleksander Hasidim (also written as Alexander) were the second largest Hasidic group in pre-Holocaust Poland, centered in the small village of Alexander (or in Polish, Aleksandrów Łódzki) near Łódź. Today Aleksander chasidim live in communities in Israel, United States, Switzerland, Antwerp, London and Australia.
