  • Blacks in Latin America: Harvard scholar Henry Louis Gates, Jr. traces Latin America's African roots in the four-part series, premiered April 19, 2011, at 8 p.m. ET on PBS. Gates discusses the legacy of colonialism and slavery shared by Brazil, CUba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Mexico, and Peru. The series tells how more than 10 million Africans were taken to the Caribbean and Latin America and kept in bondage far longer than slaves in the United States. (Jet, April 18/25, 2011, p. 11).
