Castles

• Gosford Castle - situated in Gosford, a townland of Markethill, County Armagh close to the border with County Down. Construction of the castle began in 1819 and finished in the 1850s. It was commissioned by Archibald Acheson, 2nd Earl of Gosford . The architect was Thomas Hopper, one of the leading London architects of the first half of the 19th century. It is the largest Grade A listed building in Northern Ireland. The Earl of Gosford was forced to sell the castle's contents in 1921. It was during commandeered durimng the Second World War as prisoner-of-war camp. Following the war the Gosfords sold the estate and it was acquired by the Forestry Commission. It was, for periods, occupied as a hotel, barracks and restaurant. It was also used during the Troubles in NI by the British Army. There is also a crypt hidden somewhere in one of the corners of the castle that has recently been sealed.

• Ardress House - Built in the 17th century as a farmhouse, Ardress was remodelled in Georgian times and has a character and charm all of its own.

• Dan Winter's House - Ancestral Home of Dan Winter, one of the founders of the Orange Order, this is the building where the first meetings of the order occurred and the house is officially listed as "the meeting place following the Battle of the Diamond where the decision to form the Orange Order was made". Re-thatched in 2000 a lot of the original materials have been carefully preserved and there are artefacts on display for the public to view.
• Darkley House - has a history in the linen industry in the 18th century and was the home of the industrious entrepreneur Mr Calvert who developed the mill village of Darkley in County Armagh.

• Killevy Castle, Ballintemple Road, Meigh

• Manor House, Milford - Originally the seat of the McCrum family, damask manufacturers, of the firm McCrum, Watson and Mercer, and home of the inventor of football's penalty kick, this two-storey mansion has been vacant for just over a decade, having previously been used as a special care home.
